I've been reading up on blogging and listening to some podcasts on the subject and I've made a few decisions on how I'm going to handle my blog. This is just to start and I'm making no promises that it won't change in the future as I get deeper into the medium.
I've decided to start with a single blog and set up categories to allow readers to decide what information they want to consume.
Here are the categories I'm starting with...
CATEGORY: Programming
By trade, I'm a computer software developer. I'll give my full bio as it pertains to development in my first "categorized" entry under programming. I hope to offer some good information on what I've learned over the years, discuss new technologies (that is if I can type as fast as they come out), go to you for help when I'm stuck and generally start a community for developers. I currently develop Windows and web applications in C#, with the usual MS SQL Server, Javascript, CSS, XML, etc. that goes along. Join me in discussing this in my Programming category.
CATEGORY: Business Development
About 5 years ago, the large software company that I was working for closed the offices in Dallas. I made the decision then to start my own company. Since then, I've created a few different companies on paper and actually gotten one off the ground. Business-wise it was a huge success. Partner-wise, not so much. I've got a few more companies in the works and I'm sure I'll discuss them as they progress, if they progress. :) I also read alot, listen to a number of podcasts and audiobooks on the business development process, so I'm sure there will be plenty of discussion on those as well. If you have an interest in Business Development, I hope you will find something here to interest you.
CATEGORY: Entertainment
I love music, movies and TV. I watch entirely too much TV. I'm not a huge moviegoer, but I keep up at least after they come out on DVD. I don't read People Magazine or TiVo ET everynight. I'm curious about the big celebrity stories, but I don't keep up with who married (or divorced) who. I just like discussing new music, the latest episode of 24 or House (or any of the other seemingly 100+ series that I keep up with), or chatting about the latest Harry Potter or Die Hard. I'm a huge sports fan, baseball particularly, but since having kids, sports seems to have been moved down a few notches on list of things I have time to enjoy. I keep up with the scores and the top news stories, but don't make it out to the ballpark much anymore. Join in on what I hope will be a lively discussion of all topics of fun-having in my Entertainment category.
CATEGORY: Guns
I'm not sure where all I'll go here, but I have fallen into a group that introduced me to shooting and I have picked up a new hobby. I've started a collection of handguns and I have a rifle and a shotgun. I'm not proficient at any of them, but I'm hoping to be someday. I'm sure the topic will spread to some general outdoor topics and some hunting dicussions, if I ever get to do much hunting. If you enjoy or partake in the sport of shooting or hunting, come by and add to the discussions in the Guns category.
CATEGORY: Woodworking
Here's another passion of mine. I have what I would consider a full woodworking shop in my garage. I've got a double garage and there hasn't been a car in it for years (and don't expect to in the near future). Due to all the other interests I've devoted time to recently, woodworking hasn't gotten much attention lately. But what guy doesn't like to discuss tools! Come hear stories of my sawdust-making in the Woodworking category.
CATEGORY: Personal
Here's a place for me to post stuff that would probably only be of interest to my family and friends.
CATEGORY: General
This is the catch-all for posts like this and general stuff. You gotta have a place for all the rest of the rants that don't fit into another category, right???
I hope you will find something here to join me in discussing.
Welcome,
Trent
